Simple Luau Theme Party
A luau theme party can be a vibrant fun party where everyone can get into the party mood. The luau party can be in any setting. It can also suit any age group and lots of occasions. The occasions can be a birthday, retirement, graduation or indeed any celebration. I like a luau theme party as it is a brilliant focus for the party. I think we all just love the thought of being in Hawaii, soaking up the sun and relaxing into the friendly atmosphere of the island. Many of us dream of vacations in Hawaii and the beautiful experience it would be. Hopefully that is how your guests think too.
There are lots of things that make the party go well. That will include wearing great costumes, guests looking forward to the party, a great venue, decorations, food, games, favors, entertainment and the atmosphere you can create. Luau does help you do all of this very successfully. I think even just getting dressed up for the luau theme party will get them in the mood.
You may have a choice of venues for your party. The luau theme can go well at the beach, home, country club or YMCA for example. Any venue can be turned into The invitations could be designed as an island paradise or even be postcards. You can word the invitations to invite the guests to your island paradise to celebrate the birthday or graduation for example. Remember to state the dress code and give the normal party details.
If the venue is your home for example you can get to work on creating a great venue. Beg, buy and borrow as many travel posters, fake palm trees, lei, tiki lights, xmas lights, tiki masks, surfing equipment and all sorts of Hawaiian things as you can. Find newspapers, magazines, posters, photos, vacation photos and Hawaiian artwork. Of course it is a party so have lots of balloons, streamers and tinsel. If it is a graduation party then you could have caps, scrolls, photo tribute boards, sign in boards and the graduates memorabilia. You can also have an area of the party that is a sandy beach perhaps with surfing equipment.
The food can be typically Hawaiian. I like all the fresh pineapple and coconut. There are fantastic recipes you can use. However the guests may also like to have some BBQ.
Favors, games and prizes can be Hawaiian themed. The music can be ukele music with perhaps a live band playing. That would make it much more authentic.
A luau theme party is a great theme to use.

Anyone have some funny fantasy football draft stories?
ex. Some guy shows up with last years fantasy football magazine and proceeds to announce his "sleepers".
So and so drafts Tiki Barber the year after he retires and claims Tiki will be back.
One guy in my money league is a huge Vikings fan (his name is Sven, for cryin' out loud). Every year he goes way overboard with Vikings. A couple of years ago, a friend of his tagged along to advise him (I dubbed his friend the "Draft Consigliere"). All was going well for about half of the draft, every now and then I would hear Sven's friend say "No you can't draft (some Viking). Then about round 8 Sven's advisor goes to use the bathroom, and Sven's pick comes up while he's gone. Needless to say, Sven immediately drafted some anonomous Viking and we all laughed our asses off.
Last year we had a woman in the league for the first time. She had the number one pick and took LT, so props to her there. I can't remember who her 2nd pick was, it was a decent pick, but then with her third pick she goes for...Jason Elam. That's right, a kicker in round 3. Yes, she's a Bronco fan. In round 5 she took Denver's D. (I told her I would add a free agent kicker and D/ST during the year that would outscore Elam and Denver D/ST, and I did so- I got Mason Crosby in week 4 or so and added Indy's D when my regular D's bye came around). The ironic thing is that she was able to trade LT for three players and ended up making the playoffs anyway, although she lost her first game.
