What does the "I" on my Hawaiian ABC quilt stand for?

I think the lady told me it was some kind of hawaiian instrument. It looks a little like a ukelele.

If it looks like an ukulele without strings or neck, it could be an ipu heke, a double gourd used for percussion in dancing hula.
